Switching PHP Version in cPanel

If your webhosting uses cPanel, you can change the PHP version of your website yourself in MultiPHP Manager, without contacting your hosting provider.

Changing the PHP version · 1:33

aMember requires PHP 8.3 or newer. Use PHP 8.4 or 8.5 if your hosting offers it: newer versions are faster and receive security fixes for longer.

PHP 8.2 still runs the current aMember release, but we do not recommend it. PHP 8.2 reaches its end of life soon and will no longer get security fixes, and upcoming aMember updates will require PHP 8.3 or newer. Switch now, so that you can install the next aMember update without changing hosting settings first.

(The video above mentions PHP 8.2 as the minimum; PHP 8.3 is the minimum now.)

  1. Log in to the aMember admin panel.
  2. Open Utilities → System Info in the left menu.
  3. The PHP row shows the PHP version your site uses now.
  1. Log in to cPanel and open MultiPHP Manager (section Software).
  2. At the top, System PHP Version shows the default version set by your hosting provider. Domains marked inherit in the list below use this version.
  3. Tick the checkbox next to the domain where aMember is installed.
  4. In the PHP Version list on the right, choose the new version, for example PHP 8.4.
  5. Click Apply.

The change takes effect right away. If the version you need is missing from the list, ask your hosting provider to install it.

Go back to the aMember admin panel and open Utilities → System Info again. The PHP row now shows the new version.

If aMember reports a missing PHP extension after the switch, ask your hosting provider to enable that extension for the new PHP version. The extensions aMember needs are listed in Requirements.
